KNUN Suspends Strike Following Court Order

This is after the Industrial Court of Kenya in Nairobi issued a notice ordering the suspension of the strike.

The industrial court issued the order on 21st November following a suit that was filed in the court by Human Rights Activist Okinya Omtata on 20th of November 2014.

While addressing journalists in Nairobi, the General Secretary of KNUN Seth Panyako said that the union is disappointed at the way the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Health and the Principal Secretary Ministry of Health handled the issues of nurses that lead to the issuance of the strike.

He claimed that Chairman of National Nurses Association, Jeremiah Maina, influenced the Ministry of Health not to meet the Union of Nurses.

Panyako further said that the Chairman of National Nurses Association should only deal with professional matters and not matters concerning industrial matters of nurses.

Following the standoff between the National Union of Nurses and the Ministry of Health, the union plans to seek solution of the current industrial issues through the court that begins with suspension of the strike that was to kick off on Monday.
