KNUT boss Wilson Sossion headed to Parliament as MP

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, is headed to Parliament after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) submitted his name for nomination to the National Assembly.

Sossion was nominated by the ODM party to represent workers having served as the Chairman and Secretary General of KNUT as well as chairperson of the Trade Union Kenya (TUK).

Sossion, a trade unionist of long standing, was last year termed as a frontrunner in the Bomet gubernatorial seat but did not make good his move to run for the seat currently held by Isaac Ruto.

During his tenure at the helm of KNUT, Sossion has led several industrial actions following failure by the government to award teachers a pay rise.

He has been nominated alongside Migori Women Representative, Denitah Ghati – who will represent Persons With Disability (PWD).

Other nominees include Seth Kakusye Mutua to represent Women and Khadija Hussein to represent the youth.

In the Senate, the Raila Odinga-led party has nominated Beatrice Kwamboka Makori, Masitsa Ndombi Shiyonga, Rebecca Lowoiya, Fatuma Abdi Jehow and Harold Kimuge Kipchumba.

In a letter, ODM said that it received more than 62,000 applications for nominations but could only nominate those within the constitutionally available slots.
