KNUT Postpones Strike Notice

KNUT also says that it will notify its executive committee the outcome of Wednesday’s meeting within two weeks.

Speaking during a press briefing at the KNUT’s headquarters, KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion said that teachers’ promotions have been ignored by the government for a long time.

Sossion also pointed out that these promotions would cost the government 4Billion shillings whereas in the 2013/2014 budget TSC was allocated 600 million shillings.

Sossion had earlier said that over 53,000 qualified teachers had been unfairly denied promotions despite having obtained degrees and diplomas.

The planned strike was a decision made during the union’s 56th annual delegates' conference in Nakuru in December, 2013.

During the meeting, the delegates demanded that the commission recognize all new qualifications obtained by teachers.

Participants at the Annual Delegates Conference in Nakuru had also endorsed an emergency fund to cushion striking teachers.
