KNUT says not supporting political parties

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) will not support any political party or alliance during the forthcoming General Election but individuals based on their performance and leadership qualities.

Speaking during the signing of an MoU with the  County Government of Siaya on engagement of the county’s Early Childhood Education (ECDE) teachers into the union membership, KNUT National Treasurer, John Matiang’i, said the union will support individual personalities.

He stated that as a union they will only support those leaders who have stood with them as a teaching fraternity and those who are ready to stand with them.

Matiang’i said they will not support somebody because he or she belongs to any particular political party arguing that some inefficient people would want to hide in popular parties then fail to deliver in the long run.

“In Nyamira, my governor is John Nyagarama who is in ODM, I will support him as Nyagarama and my MP is Ben Momanyi of Wiper, and I will support them as individuals not as parties,” said Matiang’i.

KNUT Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, echoed the sentiments saying that they support individual leaders, not political parties.

Sossion also said he too supports Governor Isaac Ruto of Chama Cha Mashinani but based on individual performance and manifesto not the party.
