KNUT wants gov’t to ensure heavy rains don’t affect KCSE exams

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has urged the government to maintain a watchful eye to avoid disruption of the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations by heavy rains.

This comes after the Kenya Meteorological Department on Monday warned of impending heavy rainfall and flash floods during the month of November in areas like Kitale, Kericho, Nandi, Eldoret, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Busia, Nakuru, Narok, Naivasha, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kiambu, Embu, and Meru.

According to KNUT Nandi branch treasurer, James Talam, the government needs to be on standby to instantly respond to emergencies resulting from the rain as secondary school candidates sit their final examinations.

He further stated that off-road vehicles as well as aircraft should be deployed in case the weather pattern turns ugly as predicted by the weatherman.

Mr. Talam also appealed to the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) to strictly supervise the examination process in order to avoid malpractices which only end up affecting the students and the school thereby leading to “a waste of time and resources to all parties.”
