KNUT wants TSC commissioners arrested

KNUT wants TSC commissioners arrested

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) now wants the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) commissioners arrested for failing to give them the 50 – 60% pay rise as per the Industrial Court ruling.

KNUT officials from the Embu branch said that the High Court should order for the arrest of the TSC commissioners for being in contempt of court.

Branch Secretary John Gitari said that the TSC commissioners have continued to be free while disobeying court orders when they ought to be behind bars.

Gitari said that the Union Lawyer and the national officials should initiate the prosecution procedure.

He said that TSC commissioner should be issuing threats and other orders while in jail.

He said that TSC now is victimizing teachers for their failure since they have not effected what the court ordered to enable teachers resume classes.

He called upon the head teachers to stay put and not follow any instruction by the TSC to forward the registers of the teachers not in schools

Gitari said that the intimation by TSC commissioners had failed as head teachers have also failed to forward the list.

The teachers strike entered its 9th day Thursday with many public schools in the country virtually empty as teachers and learners alike stayed away.
