KNUT writes a protest letter to Uhuru over Kaimenyi.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has written to President Uhuru Kenyatta demanding the removal of Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi from office for allegedly undermining the education sector.

Speaking in Mombasa County during Kilindini Branch’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion said that they would also not allow Kaimenyi to address any teachers’ meeting in the country.

Sossion accused KUPPET and other unions of being used by the government to divide teachers in the country and urged teachers to take a general stand on political leadership of this country come 2017 to ensure an education reformist is elected.

He maintained that the planned September teachers’ strike is real should the government fail to release the awarded salary increment by the end of this month.

This comes just a day after TSC chair Dr Lydia Nzomo was heckled at a conference in Mombasa by the over 10,000 primary school head teachers after she failed to explain why the government has not implemented the new salary increment awarded by the court recently.
