Konoin MP Yegon charged with assault, released on Ksh.15K bail

Konoin MP Brighton Yegon has been charged with assault at a court in Sotik.

He is accused of assaulting Mr. Nicholas Kipsang Ngetich on October 14, this year in Kapset area Konoin constituency, Bomet.

Mr. Ngetich who was present in court is said to have sustained serious injuries following the alleged attack.

His advocate Robert Asembo told the court that the two parties are in a bid to reach a settlement out of court.

“I wish to inform the court that we are in full compliance with the orders to appear before it today (Friday) and we pray the accused be released on affordable cash bail for the misdemeanour,” he said.

The MP had been directed to appear in court on Friday morning following an application by Mr Felix Mutua, the Konoin Sub county criminal investigations officer.

The officer claimed that he had defied summons to record a statement following the incident.

The MP however recorded the statement on Saturday, October 20, at Konoin Police Station.

Principal Magistrate Mr Benard Omwansa said that the law is fair to all and can be applied unconditionally.

“I have considered the application by the prosecution and the affidavit sworn by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and the allegation levelled against the accused person,” he said in his ruling.

The magistrate ordered the MP to be released on a Ksh.30,000 bond or Ksh.15,000 cash bail.

Hearing has been set for February 4,2019 while mention will be on November 13 this year.
