Konza is in Machakos County, residents insist

Residents of Konza Sub-Location are insisting that the location is within Machakos County and not Makueni County as was earlier speculated.

Armed with a ministerial statement on the demarcation of Konza City boundary by the Senate Standing Committee on Lands and Natural Resources, the residents welcomed recommendations that Konza location is within Machakos County and not Makueni County.

Former councilor in the defunct Municipal Council of Machakos Benjamin Muluva says they have been tormented by the County Government of Makueni telling them that the sub-location was within Makueni County, yet they are in Machakos County.

Muluva lauded the Senate committee for the report and urged the committee to intervene and end the boundary wrangles between the three counties (Machakos, Makueni and Kajiado) so that people living close to the borders can live in unity and harmony.

The former councilor added that the wrangles between Machakos and Makueni Counties started in 2009 after the national government identified a 5,000 acres piece of land in the area for construction of Konza City, further claiming that what is going on is an attempt to take ownership of the project.

Konza City is a business process outsourcing under the vision 2030 that is set to host BPO ventures, a science park, a convention Centre, shopping malls, hotels, international schools, and a health facility at a cost of Sh1.2 trillion.
