KPMG pledges transparent audit of voter register

Audit firm KPMG has today (Thursday) moved to assure Kenyans of their intention to conduct a transparent audit of the voter’s register.

The firm, which was awarded the contract to audit the voter register, has committed to complete the exercise within 21 days as agreed with the electoral body.

According to KPMG East Africa CEO Josephat Mwaura, the firm will verify every single entry in the Voters Register against data on IDs, Passports as well as the Register of Births and Deaths.

In addition, using the Register of Deaths, KPMG will identify any deceased persons and recommend their striking off from the Register.

According to KPMG, the voter register under audit has a total of 19.4 million registered voters.

The firm further committed to reviewing the biometric data in a bid to identify duplicates and any incomplete data in the register.

Using details from the Register of Births, IDs and Passports, KPMG further detailed how they will carry out analytics to identify any underage voters who may be in the Register.

IEBC is expected to present the updated register to the electorate 90 days before the elections, by 10 May 2017, for the electorate to validate their details including biometric data.
