KRA intercept drugs worth Ksh 5M at JKIA

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers intercepted a consignment of Narcotics estimated to have a street value of 5 million shillings at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The narcotics intercepted on Saturday during high risk profiling at Courier Services was approximately 1.9 kilograms and was concealed in soles of ladies shoes on transit to Netherlands from Uganda.

In a statement to newsrooms, the officers took samples from the seized parcel which were taken to KRA laboratory for analysis and the results confirmed that the narcotic drugs are cocaine.

This comes barely a week after police at JKIA intercepted 18 pieces of ivory valued at 6.4 million shillings.

The consignment of 22 boxes had been declared as gemstones said to have originated from Mozambique and destined for Bangkok in Thailand.

According to JKIA head of Criminal Investigations Joseph Ngisa, police were investigating to ascertain the identity of the sender and recipient.
