Ksh 1 Billion set aside for youth in Kiambu

The Kiambu county government has set aside Ksh. 1 Billion shillings worth of tenders to be awarded to Youth.

Speaking during the launch of Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) Sensitization Campaign, Kiambu governor William Kabogo said only 17% of tenders were awarded to youths and women group last year in the county.

The Governor noted that the youths did not apply for the tenders for the last financial year.

Kabogo noted that that 98% of work force is from within and encouraged the youth groups to rise up and demand for their slots because the county is full of opportunities.

Kabogo reiterated the commitment of his government in support of the programs work saying will continue working with all sectors to devolve the services down to the ward level to reach as many residents as possible.

Speaking at the same event, nominated Member of Parliament Isaac Mwaura said most of the youths have been forced to give out bribes to get the tenders draining their capital to do business with government.

He called on the youths to take the advantage of the platform and grab the opportunities.

Mwaura called on other parliamentarians to work with the youth, women and disabled people to see the tenders meant for them are awarded.

Kiambu youths affairs and sports Executive Machel Waikenda said the local youth have not applied for the tenders despite the county setting flexible measures for the supplies.

The campaign is being coordinated by the ministry of devolution in conjunction with the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association to educate the masses of the process of getting access to government procurement opportunities.
