Ksh.2M cash bail for woman who tried to steal Ksh.16M Barclays property

A woman was on Tuesday charged with conspiracy to defraud Barclays Bank of Kenya out of property worth over Ksh. 16million.

Agnes Ndinda Kilonzi denied the charges when she was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts.

The court was told that the offence was committed on various dates between April 10 and May 20 this year.

“…jointly with others not present before the court, with intent to defraud, (she) conspired to steal Ksh. 16,585,000 property of Barclays Bank,” the charge sheet reads.

Kilonzi was also charged with seven other counts where the prosecution contended that she stole over Ksh. 6.5million from I & M Bank’s Garden City branch.

This was reportedly on diverse dates between April 16 and May 13 using different transactions.

Appearing before Magistrate Martha Mutuku, the accused through her lawyer pleaded for lenient bail and bond terms.

She also requested to be supplied with copies of the witness statements that the prosecution intends to use.

The magistrate released her on Ksh. 2million cash bail or an alternative Ksh. 3million bond or sureties of the same amount.

The case will be mentioned on July 23.
