The Anti-Counterfeit Authority are reported to have confiscated counterfeit mobile phones and phone accessories estimated to be valued at over Ksh.8 million.

Accessories, that included chargers, phone covers, batteries and earphones were also confiscated after the authority raided shops in Nairobi’s Luthuli Avenue after receiving complaints from phone manufacturer Samsung.

Speaking after the crackdown, the ACA Chief Inspector Ibrahim Bule said five suspects were arrested during the raid further urging other brand manufacturers to come out in the fight against counterfeit products.

“This is a crackdown that will continue. The agency has now focused completely on cracking down on all illicit and counterfeit products and will get rid of all of them from the market,” said Bule.

On his part, Peter Mutula, Samsung brand consultant moved to assure Kenyans of value for money saying they are committed to rid off the market of counterfeit products.

“We want our consumers to know that there is value for their money, what they buy is what they get, we encourage them to buy their mobile phones and accessories from Samsung branded outlets and authorized distributors,” said Mutula.

Some of the counterfeit devices seized had branding for top phone brands like HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Huawei and Sony.

The suspects, held at the Central Police Station, Nairobi will aid police in investigations.
