Ksh300 million cancer complex to be constructed in Kilifi

Kilifi County Government has stepped up the fight against cancer by setting aside Ksh300 million to construct a cancer complex unit at the Kilifi County hospital this financial year.

Speaking on Saturday at Pwani University during the burial of Sydney Manneseh, who succumbed to cancer, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi said that his government has already announced the tender and the contractor is supposed to be on site as from next month to roll out the construction of the complex unit.

The governor noted with concern that there has been an increase in the number of cancer deaths in the county, adding that this has been worsened by the lack of proper cancer treatment facilities. Kingi said that constructing the unit would boost campaign against cancer.

He further added that his administration is keen on finalizing a partnership agreement with the American Doctors’ Association who shall assist the county in running the cancer complex. The facility will consist of an Intensive Care Unit, an Emergency Unit and a dialysis unit.

Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of cancer cases reported across the country. Prevention and screening of cancer has been a great challenge to most of people in the country due to lack of proper health care infrastructure.
