KUPPET Gives Kaimenyi 14 Days To Discipline Schools

KUPPET chairperson Omboko Milemba said that many schools have no boards which are supposed to solve issues of indiscipline.

Milemba said the responsibility of ensuring discipline is maintained in schools has been left to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) directors who he accused of abusing the powers.

“The Cabinet Secretary has left the role of solving issues of indiscipline in schools to the TSC directors. They are now abusing these powers while leaving many cases unheard,” he said.

“We are giving Kaimenyi 14 days to set up structures that will ensure schools have boards to handle such issues, or else I will organise a meeting with the national governing council to take a stand on the issue.”

KCSE SUPERVISORS PAYMENT

Milemba also gave the Kenya National Executive Council (KNEC) 14 days to pay teachers who supervised last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

“The exams are out but those who did the supervision and marking have not yet been paid.”

He stated that a lot is expected of the new KNEC boss Mbithi Kivilu who took over from Paul Wasanga.

KUPPET, together with Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), has made known their stand against Cabinet Secretary Kaimenyi’s move to scrap off ranking of schools and the new fee structure.

Speaking during the announcement of 2014 results, Mr Milemba said that the government's move to scrap off school ranking systems was uncalled for adding that it directly affects competition in schools.
