KURA disowns KURA structure illegally erected on Ngong Road

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has now disowned a concrete structure bearing its initials erected on Ngong Road following public uproar.

The state corporation on Thursday said it had not issued any approvals to erect the structure – which, strangely, has the initials ‘KURA’ – further terming it illegal.

The authority now says the structure will be demolished and “the culprits will face legal action,” adding that “it is illegal to place any structure on our roads without requisite approval.”

Social media user Joyce Nyairo had earlier in the day complained about one of the KURA structures on Ngong Road between Baptist Church and Prestige saying they were poorly designed.

Ms. Nyairo further lamented that the structures were being constructed “at a height guaranteed to obstruct drivers,” adding that “three KURA signs within 400m is just excessive.”

Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) have since ridiculed the state authority questioning how it was possible that such large structures were erected on Kenyan roads without their approval and/or knowledge.
