Kuresoi residents tell off Raila over Itare dam project

Residents living near the Itare Dam site in Kuresoi North, Nakuru County have asked Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader, Raila Odinga, to stop interfering with the government’s Ksh 38 billion Itare Dam Project.

The residents have asked Odinga to stop inciting the public saying the project is the first one to be initiated by the government since independence and that it was a blessing as it has created employment for many youth in the area.

Condemning Odinga’s sentiments, James Karuga – a resident, said the project meant well for the community that has not enjoyed much development from the previous administrations.

“We are asking Raila to stop talking ill about the project because it is benefiting us,” he said.

Jacob Njuguna, another resident, thanked the government for initiating the project.

He, however, appealed to the construction company contracted by the government and the Rift Valley Water and Services Board (RVWSB) to mark the site to ensure security for both locals and livestock to reduce accidents.

The residents were speaking at the site barely a week after Odinga poked holes into the project saying that it would not benefit all the residents and would lead to drying up of some rivers and the regional water catchments.
