Kuria, Luo communities must unite, says MP

Nyatike Member of Parliament Edick Anyanga has called for cooperation between the Luo and Kuria communities ahead of the 2017 presidential elections.

Speaking in this constituency on Saturday, Anyanga said the political pact between Luo and Kuria communities is essential since both communities depend on each other in driving their political agenda.

He allayed fears that the Luo community plans to sideline the Kuria community in the next elections, saying the two communities are inter-dependent.

The legislator said that Orange Democratic Party (ODM) would ensure that the interests of the two communities are upheld including fair representation in the party’s leadership and elective positions.

On his part, Migori Senator Dr Wilfred Machage said the community wishes to have its own county to avoid being sidelined in the next elections.

Machage said the Kuria community has met the necessary requirements needed in boundary allocations, saying past historical events should be a push factor to fast-track the process.

The Kuria community, considered one of the smallest in a largely Luo-dominant Migori County, clinched two slots in the 2013 elections under ODM ticket – the senatorial and women representative positions.
