Kuria, Waruguru among 4 DP Ruto allies removed from National Assembly committees

Four Members of Parliament allied to Deputy President William Ruto’s camp have formally been de-whipped from various National Assembly committees.

The MPs include Moses Kuria (Gatundi South), Catherine Waruguru (Laikipia), Cornelly Serem (Aldai), and Joyce Chepkoech Korir (Bomet).

New Majority Whip Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo MP), in a letter seen by Citizen Digital, notified Speaker Justin Muturi of the removal of the four from the committees.

Kuria now loses his membership on the Transport, Public Works and Housing Committee while Waruguru has been discharged from the Committee on Members Services and Facilities.

Mr. Serem, on his part, was kicked out of the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Committee and Ms. Korir lost her seat on the Labour and Social Welfare Committee.

Mr. Wangwe had on June 3, 2020 written to the legislators giving them 7 days to explain why they should not be dismissed from the House committees.

It is upon the expiry of this period that the Majority Whip has now written to the Speaker notifying him of the changes, adding “Kindly do communicate this decision of the Party to the Member and the House.”

The four are the latest to face the axe with Jubilee Party leader President Uhuru moving to regain control of the party by kicking out DP Ruto’s allies from key positions in both the Houses of Parliament.
