Kwale, Aga Khan Foundation pen MOU on early childhood education

The County Government of Kwale and The Aga Khan Foundation on Wednesday, October 5 penned an MOU to support value addition to Early Child Development Education (ECDE) programs in the county.

The foundation and the county government will have a shared commitment to the schooling children by making learning opportunities accessible and affordable.

Aga Khan Foundation Chief Executive Officer for East Africa, Kevin Moorhead, said the partnership is going to benefit more than 100,000 school-going children from across the county.

He added that through the signing of the MOU, the foundation is going to train teachers in Early Childhood Development and support school management committees and classrooms.

Aga Khan Foundation has an annual budget of Ksh 98 million but 45 percent of it is used for projects which are in Kwale.

Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya, appreciated the support and partnership which Aga Khan Development Network has provided to improve education in the county.

Mvurya called upon other development partners to chip in and extend their services to primary schools in order to support the transition from ECDE to primary school.

The County Government of Kwale has so far constructed 164 ECDE centers, employed 550 teachers and absorbed those who were employed by the defunct municipal and county councils.
