Kwale: Parent claims teacher caned her daughter Aisha Awadhi to death

Police in Kwale have arrested a school teacher who is accused of caning 14-year-old Aisha Awadhi to death.

According to Peter Nzimbi, the Lungalunga Subcounty police boss, an autopsy revealed that the schoolgirl died from a blood clot caused by a head injury.

Before she was hospitalized, the girl had complained of a severe headache from the alleged beating.

Lydia Munyori, a Standard Seven teacher had reportedly caned the entire class.

According to the deceased’s mother Memsa Adbadallah, she had already presented a medical history of her daughter to the school that forbade strenuous work and corporal punishment.

The medical documents indicated that her child was suffering from sickle cell anaemia and needed specialized care in school and at home.

“I gave the school the medical report of my daughter where the doctor had indicated that Aisha should not be beaten or given any tough task that can pose a threat to her life,” she said

The girl succumbed to her injuries two days after the beating: she had admitted to the Msambweni Referral Hospital.

The school principal Nassir Mwabweko however watered down the allegations saying the student could not have died from the caning.

Aisha was laid to rest on Monday as her teacher Munyori remains in police custody awaiting her arraignment in court.
