KWS captures stray lion spotted along Mombasa Road

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has captured a stray lion that was spotted Friday morning near the City Cabanas foot bridge along the busy Nairobi – Mombasa Highway.

According to the KWS official twitter account, a man who was injured by the lion was taken to hospital.

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) had dispatched a team of officers to track down the stray lion.

Embakasi residents and pedestrians who use the footbridge now say they are living in fear of the lions that stray from the Nairobi National Park.

The residents had been cautioned to stay away from the area until the animal is tracked.

This comes just a day after three lions killed 114 sheep and injured 28 others in Syokimau area of Machakos County.

The three lions are believed to be among the six that were recently reported missing by KWS personnel.

In February 2016, six lions strayed from the Nairobi National Park. According to the Park’s senior warden Nelly Palmeris, the lions were spotted by witnesses, something that caused panic along the Southern by-pass and in Langata estate.

KWS had appealed to the public to provide information that would assist the team of officers on the hunting mission.
