Step aside and support Ruto, Laboso tells Gideon Moi

Bomet Governor Dr. Joyce Laboso has urged Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to shelve his 2022 presidential ambitions and support Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking during a church service at Bomet Riverside Africa Gospel Church (AGC), Dr. Laboso said the deputy president is far much ahead in his campaigns for the top seat, hence, he should be given an opportunity to rally the community behind him.

“We have two of our sons from the same community but even in the traditional way of how we look at things, there is always a front runner and for sure the deputy president has been ahead of the game. Senator Gideon is one of our own,  but let everyone take their turn. This time the turn is for William Samoei Ruto who worked so hard to support Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Governor Laboso.

She claimed that the die has already been cast in favour of Mr. Ruto in the 2022 presidential contest.

“Rift Valley has always been clear in its political decisions. And from all indications, we have been building up towards 2022 and I don’t think something else is coming to change our plan of the person we were preparing for 2022 elections,” Laboso added.

Meanwhile, the 2022 succession politics continue to take centre stage with more than four years to the next General Election.

While the deputy president has been asking leaders to shun politics and focus on development, he personally appears to have taken charge of his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Ruto has been quietly meeting delegations at his Karen office, where sources say, Members of Parliament have been asked to spread the word on his 2022 presidential bid.

From the beginning of February, the deputy president’s official office in Karen, Nairobi, has been a beehive of activity with meetings upon meetings by MPs from various counties, ministerial, religious and business groups as well.

Nonetheless, the DP has to contend with the unsettled political waters in his own backyard, with the kinsmanship contest between him and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi still on.
