Laikipia County workers issue strike notice over unpaid allowances

Close to 2, 000 county workers from Laikipia have threatened to down their tools on Monday, June 17 over unpaid allowances.

Speaking through their union leadership, the workers protested the County’s recent move to hire what they termed as surplus workers, contrary to the county laws.

Members of the County Assembly in support of the workers, have adjourned their county assembly duties for seven days in a move meant to put pressure on the County Government to pay its workers.

The members have also threatened not to debate the proposed County budget until the workers demands are met.

The workers have now vowed to storm the office of Governor Ndiritu Muriithi to demand for their monies.

The strike notice comes amid an ongoing strike by doctors in the county that has lasted over a week.

The doctors have since vowed not to return to work until the agreed collective work bargain is implemented.
