Laikipia Governor accuses opponent of being against Uhuru’s re-election

Laikipia Governor, Joshua Irungu, has accused his gubernatorial opponents of being against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.

Speaking while donating over 3000 tanks to residents of Nturukuma village in Laikipia County, Irungu said that his challengers are not supporting the Head of State’s bid for a second term saying they were even against seeing him elected in 2013.

“My rivals are independent candidates because they are not supporters of the Jubilee agenda. The President needs another term to complete his transformation agenda and we, as Jubilee Party candidates, support him. How can independent candidates claim to support him yet they are not party members?” queried Mr. Irungu.

While defending his development record, Irungu accused his main rival, Ndiritu Muriithi, an independent candidate of not helping Laikipia residents during his tenure as an Assistant Minister for Industrialization in former President Mwai Kibaki’s tenure.

“Vote for me on August because my record speaks for itself, Muriithi is gunning for governorship yet he did not do much for this region when he was Assistant Minister in the Kibaki administration,” Irungu said.

The governor has also dismissed assertions that Laikipia is not a Jubilee zone re-assuring President Kenyatta that the region will vote in his favour.
