Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi installed as a senior elder

Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has been installed as a senior elder of the Agikuyu Community at a cultural fete held at Rumuruti trading center in Laikipia West Sub County.

Muriithi was donned in Kikuyu traditional leadership regalia and handed instruments of leadership, including a staff and a three-legged traditional chair (Njung’wa) as a symbol of leadership, authority and unity among the various communities living in Laikipia.

The governor was also honoured by the Turkana, Kalenjin and Maa communities who joined in installing the governor as a senior elder after an elaborate ritual exercise that was conducted by the top most leaders of the Agikuyu Kiama Kia Ma elders commonly referred to as Athuri a Matathi.

The elders were led by Dominic Boro Ng’era, Njathi wa Mbatia and Kariuki wa Kabue, who are the only few bestowed with the powers and authority to conduct such rituals.

Elders who spoke at the fete called on the governor to demonstrate good leadership and act as an instrument of peace and unity by bringing together the various communities living in the region.

They also challenged him to ensure that there was equitable distribution of resources so that the county can realize meaningful development.

While acknowledging the newly acquired position as a senior elder, Muriithi challenged the elders from the communities in Laikipia to encourage their people to believe in themselves and embrace local innovations.
