Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi to know his fate on July 31

The determination of an appeal case challenging the election of Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has been set for July 31.

The three-judge bench comprising of Fatuma Sichale, Sankale ole Kantai and Milton Makhandia said the case will determined in Nairobi.

Sammy Ndung’u Waity had moved to the Court of Appeal to challenge a High Court ruling that upheld Muriithi’s election as Laikipia Governor.

Through his lawyer Ramadan Abubakar, he raised issues of credibility in the poll and alleged that some voters were unable to exercise their democratic right.

The defense team: Bush Wanjala (for IEBC); Maria Mbeneka and Cecil Kuyo (for Ndiritu Muriithi); and JM Njengo and GM Wanjohi for Deputy Governor John Mwaniki, refuted the allegations.

According to them, the burden of proof lies squarely with the appellant.

The issue of cost of the case also arose with the Defense maintaining that the Ksh.12million bill slapped on the appellant was reasonable despite being challenged.
