Residents of Siron village in Laikipia County are mourning the death of a 17-year-old boy who was attacked by stray elephants on Tuesday, January 17 night.

The jumbos invaded farms neighboring Rumuruti forest at around 9:00 pm and residents teamed up to drive them back.

However, the whole activity turned tragic when one of the jumbos turned unruly and started chasing them.

Isaac Kipng’eno Barno, a Form Four student at Mung’etho Day Secondary School and who was among the over 20-people chasing away the elephants, was tossed in the air by the jumbo which then trampled on him.

His colleagues scattered in different directions as the animal became wild.

Upon realizing that the animals had left, the residents commenced a search for Kipng’eno only to find his lifeless body in the bush.

The resident have threaten to kill the animals should the government fail to put in place mechanisms to protect them from the jumbos.
