Laikipia residents decry rising insecurity

Residents of Miteta, Maua and Matuiku villages in Ng’arua, Laikipia County have raised concerns over the rising insecurity in the area.

Speaking at Miteta Trading Center during a public baraza, the locals claim that suspected criminals from the neighboring Baringo County have been terrorizing them both during the day and night.

They added that cases of housebreaking and robbery with violence have been on the rise over the past two weeks despite reporting the same to security agencies.

The residents say that cases of robbery with violence have been reported on a daily basis for the last one week but no arrests have been made.

They are blaming the insecurity on the high cases of illegal grazers who have flooded the area from the neighbouring Baringo County in search of pasture for their livestock.

The criminals, they say, are stealing foodstuff and other valuables from their homes.

The terrified residents also claim that the said criminals are armed with AK47 riffles and other weapons which they are using to intimidate and threaten them with further hampering the ongoing voter registration exercise.

They have now petitioned the government to deploy security personnel to Miteta AP Post which was constructed by the Laikipia County Government two years ago.
