Laikipia University launches free medical camp

Laikipia University has launched a medical camp aimed at creating awareness and treating non-communicable diseases.

The free medical camp is expected to reach over 4,500 people over three days and will be held at the university’s main campus.

According to the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Isaac Kosgei, the camp is part of the institution’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) especially to the community around.

He said the camp dubbed “Towards Reversing Non Communicable Diseases would be carried out in conjunction with other partners among them the African Cancer Center Foundation, The Lions Group for Eyesight, Amua Kenya Clinics, Naccada, Mediheal among others.

Prof Kosgei said the exercise would be conducted regularly due to the necessity to create awareness and the demand in the community.

He challenged the students and members of the public to take advantage of the Health Week program to find out their status in regards to the various health issues.

During the medical camp, screening for Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Obesity, Cancer-Breast examination (Male & Female); Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) Men above 40 years; Eye camp with free screening and treatment at subsidised costs; HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing; sexual and Reproductive Health awareness among others will be conducted.
