Laikipia University students block roads protesting campus closure
Laikipia University students took to the streets protesting against the closure of the institution following chaos that rocked their main campus on Monday. The students barricaded the busy Nyahururu-Nakuru highway paralyzing transport services.
The students, who reside in hostels near the University, engaged police in running battles for several hours protesting the order by the University’s Senate to send them home.
On Tuesday, the University administration closed the main campus in Nyahururu indefinitely after students went on rampage following reports that the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technology Board and the Commission for University Education had rejected two science courses offered at the institution saying the courses are not recognized. The students want new programmes introduced.
