Laikipia West OCPD shot by cattle raiders

Laikipia West OCPD, Merengo Moherai, was on Tuesday, February 7 evening shot in the chest by armed bandits as he led a security operation to drive away illegal; grazers from one of the ranches.

Mr Moherai and his officers were ambushed by armed suspected cattle rustlers posing as illegal grazers who had invaded the Kifuko ranch.

The OCPD was rushed to Nyahururu Referral Hospital for treatment.

According to Nyandarua County Police Commander, Phillip Opiyo, Mr Moherai is now in stable condition.

Police have since launched investigations into the incident and are tracking down the culprits who had camped in a remote village near Rumuruti Town.

No casualties were reported during the incident even as a contingent of security officers has been deployed to help pursue the raiders.
