Lake Naivasha’s Hyacinth To Be Removed

With the weed spreading at an alarming rate and affecting navigation around the water body, the county said that work to remove the weed would start in a couple of months.

According to the County Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, the exercise will involve processing the weed into fertilizer, animal feed and paper.

Kinuthia said that his government had approved a proposal by the investor.

The chairman Lake Naivasha Riparian Association Mark Kariuki welcomed the move to manually remove the water hyacinth from the lake.

Kariuki said that a visibility study and an environmental impact assessment would be carried out before the exercise is carried out.

Earlier the Governor and his team toured various development projects including roads and lighting in Naivasha County.
