Lamu Coal Power Plant Project

The Public Private Partnership Petition Committee dismisses case challenging the Lamu Coal Power Plant tender award to Gulf Energy and Centum Investment. The tender award was contested by Hebei Construction Investment Group (HCIG) and Liketh Investment Kenya. The rival group alleged the government bent the rules to favour Gulf Energy and Centum which is set to start building the 1000 Megawatts power plant. The proposed power plant will initially produce power using coal sourced from South Africa  and later on switch to local coal mined from Kitui County's Mui Basin
