Lamu goons warned against forceful eviction

Security officers in Lamu have issued a warning to people who are using goons to forcefully evict residents over land tussles stating that offenders will face the full force of the law.

Lamu County Deputy Commissioner, Fredrick Ndambuki, warned that all security agents are keenly following land matters and any violence or threats will not be entertained.

Ndambuki added that land in Lamu is an emotive issue and haphazard eviction of residents may degenerate into violence that will create animosity in the region. The warning comes after two people, who were involved in a conflict over land, were found dead.

Urging residents to desist invading lands set aside for the LAPSET project, the commissioner announced that the Government will soon issue title deeds to land owners in Kihangwe, Ndambwe and Mapenya regions.

The LAPSET project is a flagship infrastructure development that will connect Lamu to Ethiopia and South Sudan.
