Lamu: Police boss announces transport curfew to curb terror attacks

Security chiefs in Lamu have announced a strict curfew halting all transport vessels from operating at night following a recent spate of terror attacks in the region.

The curfew will begin at 10 PM till 4AM daily and will allow security agencies in the area monitor suspicious activity with ease.

The move is set to affect all cars, motorbikes and sea-faring vessels which will be required to cease operation during curfew.

Lamu County police boss Muchangi Kioi noted that in addition to the curfew, all vehicles transporting goods to Lamu would be subject to a thorough police search at the Mokowe Jetty .

His sentiments were echoed by Irungu Macharia, the Lamu County Commissioner who noted that private cars and motorbikes are sometimes used by criminals in the region.

The latest follows a smattering of terror attacks in in the county with the most recent attack at an army base in Manda leaving three dead.

On January 2 , an attack by the al-Shabaab on a passenger bus in Lamu left three dead and scores with injuries.
