Langata, South B, Kilimani residents warned over flash floods

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned Nairobi residents living along Lang’ata Road, Forest Road, South B, Kilimani and Syokimau to brace for flash floods from Monday, May 7.

According to the weatherman, heavy rainfall of more than 50mm is expected to pound various parts of the country in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rainfall is also expected to continue in the Coastal region from Monday evening to Thursday, May 10, the Kenya Meteorological Department announced on Monday.

According to the weatherman, counties that are set to be affected include; Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa, Kwale and Tana River.

“The rains are likely to continue causing flooding in low lying areas near the coastline and water repositories. The flooding may worsen in some parts due to the fact that alot of water has been accumulating on the ground since last week,” said the met. department in a statement.

The weatherman urged residents in the affected areas to be on the lookout for flashfloods and avoid driving, wading or walking through anyb fast moving waters.

“On Tuesday May 8, 2018 heavy rainfall of more than 50mm in 24 hours is expected off shore and in all counties along the Coastal strip. On Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 10, moderate rainfall of more than 30mm in 24 hours is expected in the South Coast region,” reads the statement.
