Lari MP Jonah Mburu arrested over alleged Ksh.27 million CDF fraud

Lari Member of Parliament Jonah Mburu Mwangi has been arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over allegations of defrauding the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty of over Ksh.27 million.

The MP was arrested alongside four others namely; Ayaan Mahadhi (Funds Account Manager, Lari NG-CDF), Peter Mugo Mwangi (Chairman, Lari NG-CDF), Grace Muthoni Macharia (Contractor), and Francis Gachoka Kamuyu (Clerk of Works, Lari NG-CDF).

The Commission also directed one more suspect – Paul Nyanjui Mucheru (Contractor) – to present himself at Integrity Centre for questioning.

The five were arrested over payments to various companies in respect of contracts allegedly awarded irregularly for construction of ICT hubs, sport activities and various schools projects.

EACC, in a statement to newsrooms on Friday, said the fraud was executed using various companies owned by the suspects such as; Claymug General Suppliers, Kienjeku Textiles and Uniforms Suppliers, Rumuli Company Limited, Oshoann General Merchant, Oshland Greens Ventures, Ndemeki Company Ltd, Kimondo & Sons General Suppliers and Pambazuko Distributors Limited.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji had earlier on, upon reviewing the files from the EACC, approved the arrest and prosecution of the six with various offences including; abuse of office, conspiracy to commit an economic crime, unlawful acquisition of public property, and conflict of interest.
