Late Nyeri Governor Gakuru death inquest to start afresh

Nyeri Chief Magistarte Wendy Kagendo has ordered that the inquiry into the death of former Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru be started afresh.

Kagendo ruled that the inquest will commence on June 25 and continue until July 11 this year for a span of seven days.

The ruling came as a result of an application made to the court by an interest group known as Amana Africa which the late governor was a member.

The group also requested to be part of the inquest and cross examine witnesses in the Gakuru inquest.

Three witnesses including the late governor’s personal assistant and two of his bodyguards had already testified in an earlier inquest that had already been initiated.

The inquiry however stalled due to the absence of presiding magistrate, Maisy Chesang who is currently facing charges in connection to the death of her husband.

The prosecution and the family of the late governor are however not opposed to the fresh inquest.
