Lawyer Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi elected LSK president

Lawyer Allen Waiyaki Gichuhi is the new president of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) after emerging the winner in an election held on Thursday.

Gichuhi, a commercial litigation advocate with 20 years experience garnered 2,675 votes beating his rival James Aggrey Mwamu, who garnered 2,145 votes in 38 polling stations in a poll that was marred by low voter turnout.

Ms. Harriett Chiggai was elected the society’s vice president.

Mr. Gichuhi specialises in commercial and administrative law (public law) litigation with his speciality being in; banking (debt collection, realisation of securities and injunctions.), company (litigation involving receiverships), insurance, bankruptcy, employment and property law, medical and professional negligence.

He brands himself as a reformist and has actively participated in the reform of the litigation landscape in Kenya for 20 years.

He is an adjunct lecturer at the Kenya School of Law where he gives lectures on the practice of litigation.

Nairobi lawyer Nelson Havi sued the society for locking him out of the election which was supervised by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
