Lawyer denies stealing Ksh.600K from client, freed on Ksh.200K cash bail

A lawyer was on Tuesday freed by an Isiolo court on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000 after denying stealing Ksh.600,000 from his client.

Appearing before Isiolo Law Courts Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai, lawyer George Mugambi Gituma was accused of stealing the said amount from Rashid Maalim Isaack and further issuing him with a bounced check of Ksh.200,000.

The court heard that on April 23, 2018, Mr. Mugambi – being an agent of Mr. Maalim at Pasis Insurance Company, Meru Branch – stole Ksh.600,000 which he was entrusted by the company to deliver to his client.

The lawyer was further accused of issuing a bank cheque of Ksh.200, 000 to the complainant on May 2, 2019, despite knowing that his account had insufficient funds.

Mr. Mugambi denied both charges and was also slapped with a bond of Ksh.300,000 and a surety of a similar amount.

The case was set for mentioning on July 2, 2019.
