Lawyer of missing Akasha brothers wants police summoned over arrest

The lawyer representing the Akasha brothers now wants the court to order officers involved in the arrest summoned to reveal the whereabouts of his clients.

Appearing before Mombasa High Court, Lawyer Cliff Ombeta lamented that his clients Ibrahim Akasha, Baktash Akasha and two others have been missing since their arrest by police last week.

“We have checked in all police stations in Mombasa and they are nowhere to be seen,” said Mr Ombeta.

Ombeta now claims that a police officer cocked his gun and threatened to shoot him dead after he stormed his clients’ compound during their dramatic arrest.

State counsel, through its lawyer Yamina Jami, however, told the court that one of the suspects is in custody, without revealing his identity.

In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Julius Nang’ea said the court would have to wait for response from the High Court after recalling their file.

The matter will be mentioned on 13th February 2017.
