Lawyer, two others arrested as police bust multi-million online car fraud syndicate

A lawyer is among three suspects arrested on Tuesday as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) broke a fraudulent online car dealers syndicate that reportedly operates in Mombasa.

Lawyer Moses Owino Angelo and another suspect, George Tsuma, were arrested in Mombasa while the other, Charles Kipsang Koech alias Charles Brian Koech alias Ibrahim Merrali, was nabbed in Naivasha.

The arrest came after two people filed a complaint at DCI Kasarani claiming to have been swindled after making payments for vehicles they had seen posted on online market place jiji.co.ke

“One buyer reported he was led to a car yard on Nairobi’s Ngong road to view a Toyota Probox. After making the full payment, he was abducted and dumped in the city centre,” said the DCI.

“Another buyer paid a deposit through Mpesa for a Land Rover. The vehicle was never delivered.”

The DCI now says investigations have so far revealed that Charles Kipsang is the kingpin of the syndicate, further urging victims of the trio to report to their Kasarani office.
