Lawyers march turns ugly as protesters pour water on police spokesman

Demonstrations by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK( and civil society turned ugly after a section of the protesters poured water on police spokesman Charles Owino to express their anger over what they termed as the inability by the security agent to address cases of rising extra-judicial killing.

Led by LSK chairman Isaac Okero, the demonstrators had matched to Vigilance House demanding action against the officers suspected to have executed lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwendwa and their taxi driver Joseph Muiruri last week after attending a court session at the Mavoko Law Courts in Machakos.

The demonstrators’ mission was to deliver a petition calling for resignation of Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro accusing them of covering up the murder of the three.

The protesters demanded an audience with the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, prompting Owino to march to Jogoo House with them where the office of the IG is located.

However, their quest to see the IG did not bear fruits.

Some activists, led by Boniface Mwangi, went on to pour some red-coloured liquid on the Police Spokesman.
