Leaders Call for Ouster of Eldoret University VC

A section of leaders from Uasin Gishu County have raised alarm over the kidnapp of three students at the University of Eldoret without proper action being taken by the institution's leadership.

The leaders have vowed to prevent the university Vice Chancellor Teresa Akenga from continuing to serve in the institution.

Led by Uasin Gishu County Assembly Leader of Majority Josphat Lowoi, they said the students have been divided along tribal and political lines.

‘We cannot allow this to continue and we are asking the ministry of education to replace the VC,’ said Mr Lowoi.

Students at the University of Eldoret went on a rampage on February 12 after allegations that  the university was employing people from outside the community.

PROMOTIONS

Lecturers from the local Kalenjin community have sought the help of politicians, a local youth group and university student leaders to push for their promotion.

Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly, Members of the County Assembly and Uasin Gishu Independent Youth Organisation were unhappy with the employment process, which they termed as unfair, leading to several demonstrations.

The university has been shut indefinitely till the matter is resolved.
