Leaders Defend Lenku Amid Sacking calls

Speaking separately, the two said issues of security should not be left to the security agencies alone and hence called for concerted efforts by all Kenyans and leaders to ensure the country was safe.

Lempurkel said terrorism was an international problem and hence should not be used as a reason to sack a few individuals for mistakes they did not commit.

Lempurkel said he will mobilize members of parliament from the Maa community to reject calls to sack Ole Lenku saying he needs to be given time to address the matter.

Noting that he has a lot of respect for CORD leader Raila Odinga, the M.P said he should support Ole Lenku saying if there is a problem with the security system, it should be rectified.

Lempurkel urged his Kisumu Central Counterpart Ken Obura who intends to table the motion to sack Joseph Ole Lenku, to drop the motion saying this was time for all leaders to come together for a common cause and not time to blame those who have failed.

Engineer Muriuki Karue said the state of national security was a serious matter and needed to be addressed once and for all.

He said it was unfortunate to lose lives in such a manner and appealed to the government to give security a priority noting that no meaningful development can be achieved without it.

He also regretted that junior officers were bearing the blunt part of the insecurity by being sacked whereas senior government officials were not compelled to answer.

Reacting to the recent Mpeketoni killings that saw some officers sacked, Karue said senior officers were also to blame for failing to give adequate information and directions to prevent the crimes.

The Nyandarua Senator added that Inspector general should tell Kenyans the kind of directives he gave prior to the killings that left over 50 people dead, scores injured and property worth millions of shillings destroyed.

At the senate, Karue revealed that a Bill was set to be table to bring county governments close to the national government and ensure that they work together and share crucial matters such as security are handled together.

He at the same time called on the opposition to stop their countrywide rallies and instead channel their grievances to both the National Assembly and the Senate.
