Leaders holding voters IDs to be banned County Commissioner

Embu County Commissioner, Esther Maina, says she will work with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to identify and block leaders who keep citizens’ Identity Cards in the promising to help them register as voters.

Ms Maina says it is criminal for politicians to confiscate residents’ ID cards in order to manipulate them, cautioning they risk being removed from the ballot.

The administrator assured legal action against those carrying out ‘voter’ registration in private offices with immediate discontinuity from the 2017 polls.

She added that only IEBC has the mandate to list new voters in the country.

The commissioner asked her deputy to compile an investigative report within 24 hours to establish persons involved in the illegal registration of voters.
