Leaders must be held accountable over allegations- Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta now wants leaders to be held accountable over the allegations they make publicly.

President Kenyatta noted that nobody is above the law, and asked Kenyans to reject the machinations of leaders who are bent to roll back Kenya’s resolve to move forward.

“The sword of justice cuts both ways, if you make unfounded claims, you should be held to account,” said President Kenyatta.

During his address at this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at the Nyayo national stadium, Kenyatta said there are leaders who are working retrogressively to derail the country’s development and unity.

“If you make allegations and fail to prove them, you must be held accountable,” said the Head of State.

“I urge every Kenyan to reject manipulation, finger pointing and negativity,” said President Kenyatta. “We choose peace and progress for all our people. To achieve this, we must transform our social and political life.”

His sentiments were echoed by Deputy President William Ruto, who said there are individuals who are sabotaging the economy by making untrue allegations to mislead the public on the achievements the country has made.

“Kenyans must not engage in baseless allegations in the fight against corruption,” said Ruto. “All those involved in baseless allegations are economic saboteurs who are against the economy of the country. Propaganda should not be used in war against corruption.”

This was in reference to the recent allegations by Cord Leader Raila Odinga that ksh. 140 billion out of the Eurobond proceeds had been stolen.
