Leaders thrown out of funeral after attacking governor

Former Alego-Usonga MP Sammy Weya and Nairobi businessman Edwin Ng’ong’a, were forced to leave a funeral in Gem Constituency after they allegedly vilified Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, who was not in attendance.

The drama unfolded shortly after the two spoke at the funeral of nominated Siaya MCA Angeline Odhiambo’s husband, Mzee Peter Odhiambo, and accused the governor of being corrupt following the recently released audit report.

When they resumed their seats, former civic leader John Ochido led a team of youths, who allegedly felt aggravated by the duo’s sentiments against the governor, in confronting and forcing them to leave.

As soon as they left Siaya MCAs who spoke at the funeral took a swipe at them for disrupting the funeral with unnecessary and baseless propaganda against the governor.

Siaya County assembly representatives, Andrew Omwende – Sigomre Ward, Mary Ajwang’ and Jared Abayo -West Gem, regretted that instead of coming to condole with the bereaved family, the two leaders decided to turn the funeral into a forum for insulting Rasanga.

They added that Weya and Ng’ong’a should have waited for a right forum to address their issues with the governor in Alego-Usonga or at his office in Siaya but not at the funeral, where the governor was not in attendance.
